I do a lot of mixed media work and this is the first time I am actually writing a related tutorial. Your feedback is appreciated :)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I started with these wooden cars (some of them are smudged from corners since they have already been painted on the other side by my 3 yo daughter!) . </div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cvHA7uU0mJ8/VcE0piha7VI/AAAAAAAAasM/Tzx-HKbLFT4/s1600/DSC_0811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cvHA7uU0mJ8/VcE0piha7VI/AAAAAAAAasM/Tzx-HKbLFT4/s320/DSC_0811.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">STEP - 1</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Prepare the surface</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are many ways to 'prepare' a surface that can hold your choice of paints and colours. I usually use a Gesso as base and then one or two layers of acrylic paint. I don't often use a paint brush for the base as I don't particularly like the visible brush strokes. To get an even coat using brushes, you will need to do it multiple times, allowing drying-time in between coats. I am not that patient, though you might notice that for this particular tutorial I have used brushes everywhere (solely for to get things done quicker). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I use Ranger cut-n-dry foam to prepare the base (check this <a href="http://rangerink.com/?product=cut-n-dry%E2%84%A2-foam-and-felt-pads">link</a>). The left side in below pic is done using brush and right side using foam. The difference is huge! Two coats using foam gives a very smooth surface.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u8tNX_EALb4/VcE3IR6oZ_I/AAAAAAAAasg/CCOb6ECoQzs/s1600/DSC_0844.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u8tNX_EALb4/VcE3IR6oZ_I/AAAAAAAAasg/CCOb6ECoQzs/s400/DSC_0844.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paint brush Vs Foam - coating the surface</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I cut small squares of about 1" to 1.5" and they last a long time if you wash them immediately each time after using them. There are two side of this foam - Black side is less porous and White side is normal foam. Black one works best to cover large surface/base and white one works best for stenciling using inks/acrylics. Black side actually absorbs less and spreads the colour better. In the below pic you can see the foam piece I used - the amount of colour you see on it was enough to cover two cars!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9bSwrIoX1e4/VcE3HvH3-2I/AAAAAAAAasc/vqHkONmboyA/s1600/DSC_0813.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9bSwrIoX1e4/VcE3HvH3-2I/AAAAAAAAasc/vqHkONmboyA/s320/DSC_0813.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Foam square used with acrylic</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With acrylic as base keep in mind that they are water based but when dry, they allow very little interaction. If you try multiple coats of different colours, you can see that coats do not mix, even when you use extra water. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are different types of acrylic - thin, heavy-body, low pigment, high pigment, translucent, opaque. The usual ones we get from craft shops are medium pigment and dry pretty quickly. Docrafts Artiste acrylic that i have used here is touch dry in about half an hour and i use my heat gun to shorten it to 5 minutes. There is another one I use called PaperArtsy Fresco Finish which is touch dry in 5 minutes without the heat gun. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want to work with the 'Raw' wooden look - get a coat of clear drying gesso. Using the wooden surface without a base will lead to a lot of 'bleeding'. In the below pic, I stamped using Stazon - can you notice the bleeding on right side car? I do not have clear gesso, so i prepared the surface with clear nail-polish and surprisingly that works well too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dKfGelPfrBM/VcE5oLZZoAI/AAAAAAAAass/uZQbnydvCi4/s1600/DSC_0814.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dKfGelPfrBM/VcE5oLZZoAI/AAAAAAAAass/uZQbnydvCi4/s400/DSC_0814.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Working on prepared surface</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are a lot of ways you can work on the prepared surface - stencils, stamping, colouring, etc. I am going to focus on stamping here, though principles are the same for all mediums. Choose your medium carefully at this step (or experiment with the supplies you have ). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Usual choices are water-based, acrylic-based or alcohol-based mediums. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Water based mediums are water pencils,usual pigment ink pads, distress inks, water pens. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Alcohol based mediums are special ink pads like Stazon, Ranger's Archival, alcohol marker pens like Spectrum noir & sharpies, and alcohol inks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I only know of one acrylic medium - acrylic paints!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><u>Stamping with water-based medium </u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried using normal pigment ink pads and distress ink pads. Pigment ink pads gave a decent result but distress ink pads were disastrous! Pigment ink showed very little bleeding though not as crisp as they are on paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Distress ink showed heavy bleeding, and it turned out to be a little translucent after drying, I could see through to the base slightly.</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Alcohol based mediums work so much better on acrylics. No bleeding, crisp images and deep vibrant colours. Alcohol inks are not absorbed readily by acrylics, they really do look vibrant as compared to normal pigment based inks. The pic below shows the difference between Stazon (Left) and pigment ink pads (Right). The colour seem darker with Stazon and detail of the feather crisp, all because alcohol does not interact with acrylic even in the slightest.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Having never worked with acrylic paints and stamp together, I struggled with it at first. I looked on the internet and tried these techniques to stamp - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C07gkt4mkJY/VcGvmkxepEI/AAAAAAAAatk/R_vF4eEAuiY/s1600/arylic-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C07gkt4mkJY/VcGvmkxepEI/AAAAAAAAatk/R_vF4eEAuiY/s400/arylic-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Acrylic stamping methods</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Simplest way - use a make-up sponge to apply paint evenly to the stamp. Okay result, probably not as much cover as i wanted.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Spread acrylic paint onto a wet-wipe and use it as stamp pad. It was okay for the line stamp but gave a barely-there look on a solid stamp. Wasted a lot of acrylic too! Not happy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Spread the paint thinly on an acrylic block using a brush and spray with little water and use it as ink pad - line stamp was decent but solid stamp came out gloopy - too much watery paint on the stamp!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After these not-so-good results I tried using my Ranger cut-n-dry foam again and I got so much better results! I think it worked because the 'black side' of the foam is not as absorbent as normal sponge, it keeps colour on its surface and at the same time does not allow the stamp to get gloopy with all that paint (the way acrylic blocks were doing). There probably are many more ways to apply paint on to stamp - google & experiment! </div>
<br />
Controlling the amount of paint that goes onto the stamp is the key factor I guess. Below are my initial attempts at it. From halo-painted to very-little paint -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aZikp3lVZ1o/VcGx9o78qgI/AAAAAAAAat4/Jr1i3ySMfds/s1600/DSC_0874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aZikp3lVZ1o/VcGx9o78qgI/AAAAAAAAat4/Jr1i3ySMfds/s400/DSC_0874.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stamping with a rubber stamp</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I got hang of it, I started getting better results. Look at the detailed butterfly in the pic below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JokeuTHRSuY/VcGx5lKnvuI/AAAAAAAAatw/zbUuf79xUo0/s1600/DSC_0871.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JokeuTHRSuY/VcGx5lKnvuI/AAAAAAAAatw/zbUuf79xUo0/s400/DSC_0871.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stamping with Acrylic stamps</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stamping with acrylics paints is definitely a very flexible approach if you can work with it. The colour combinations and the different types available - chalk, pearl, matte, shiny makes it such a versatile medium! Remember to clean your stamps immediately, acrylic once dried is difficult to remove. Get a bowl of soapy water and dip them after use. For wooden mounted stamps, keep a stack of few wet-wipes handy and place them face down on top of the stack afterwards - it will keep the paint moist till you can clean it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">STEP - 3</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sealing your work</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This step might or might not be required for your project. I like to seal my mixed media works, but I know of several artists who do not seal theirs. It might also be dependent on what you intend to use your final product as. A wooden tray painted and stamped will need sealing, even if you use Alcohol based medium (they most probably will be water resistant but not alcoholic-drink resistant!). A wall hanging might not need sealing if you don't want it to hang there for long!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<b><u><br /></u></b>
<b><u>Sealing water based work</u></b><br />
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the most difficult type of art work to seal. Water based work moves easily! I tried acrylic varnish first and it moved the ink as soon as the brush touched it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JvKqy3n4qUI/VcJMe36H33I/AAAAAAAAauQ/QGDp7dlYUn8/s1600/DSC_0858.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JvKqy3n4qUI/VcJMe36H33I/AAAAAAAAauQ/QGDp7dlYUn8/s400/DSC_0858.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With Acrylic Varnish</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I tried ModPodge - same result as normal acrylic based varnish. ( Applied Modpodge in the middle)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-etPZosU-VtY/VcJMtkEeP8I/AAAAAAAAauk/i2_m36rSJz0/s1600/DSC_0859.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-etPZosU-VtY/VcJMtkEeP8I/AAAAAAAAauk/i2_m36rSJz0/s400/DSC_0859.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With Mod Podge - Matte (on middle of frame)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lastly I tried spray varnish, sprayed very lightly and the stamped images did not get smudged! I tried to rub my brush on the image to see if this varnish will move the water based ink. I was expecting it to get messy exactly like the other two, but it moved very very slightly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kRN04Mm_yDE/VcJMlxEypKI/AAAAAAAAauc/xxuupF3hzlY/s1600/DSC_0864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="325" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kRN04Mm_yDE/VcJMlxEypKI/AAAAAAAAauc/xxuupF3hzlY/s400/DSC_0864.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With Spray Varnish - ink smudges slightly only when I use the brush</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
( If you are interested in chemistry - I was so curious to see why this varnish was so good, i checked the ingredients and googled them. This Varnish has about 60-90% Alkanes, which are Hydrocarbons, sort of alcohol-sibling but are water insoluble. So it probably doesnot react with water. AND i am sure it cannot be used on paper - it is going to make paper greasy like your used kitchen tissue paper)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are looking for something that will seal your water-based-artwork, read ingredients, check on google if they are alkanes indeed & obviously experiment! AND make sure you read warning labels carefully - this one was slightly irritating to the skin when i sprayed it without moving my hands away. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<b><u>Sealing Alcohol and Acrylic based work</u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried sealing both Acrylic and Stazon stamped images on the same piece and all three varnishes gave good results. Nothing moved, and they all dried to a good matt finish. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The spray varnish was my favourite again - no brush strokes and a very very light coverage. Though my go-to varnish will still be the docrafts Acrylic based one. For startes it is cheap, has more flow than modpodge and works well with acrylic and paper alike. </div>

If you have anything to add, please let me know! Always happy to learn! :) </div>

Questions welcome too! :)</div>

Trying to share my craft work more often from now on!<br />
<br />
Last Saturday I attended a wonderful <a href="http://www.ukstampersnetwork.com/">UKSN </a>craft retreat in Oxfordshire. Early morning start, driving 65 kms was well worth it! Came back home at 9:45 pm. Loved the workshops, and it is always good to learn about new products and techniques besides getting to know how others execute the same task.<br />
<br />
Here are two of my favourite projects from that day -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zItAThFWPg8/VXlin31DfwI/AAAAAAAAaoc/ng1yiDg_ePg/s1600/20150610_082718%2Bmodified.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zItAThFWPg8/VXlin31DfwI/AAAAAAAAaoc/ng1yiDg_ePg/s400/20150610_082718%2Bmodified.jpg" width="280" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tissue box holder and tag. </div>
<br />
<br />
After this workshop, I started looking at all the stuff i now want to buy. Gilding wax, fresco chalk paints, new dies and masks. Guess how much i need to spend this month? £75.. phew! I keep telling me I don't have a costly hobby (I have seen people spending crazy money for their hobbies), but how can i afford all this and then save some more for my other fashion stuff!! lol!!<br />
<br />
Anyways, I have joined <a href="http://www.ukstampersnetwork.com/">UKSN </a>swapping club too. Here are my next set of ATCs (themed 'Wooden' - all of these have a wooden element to them)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It is ALL hand drawn!! Even my husband couldn't believe I drew all of it while thinking of what to do! :D<br />
I have used a black pilot pen to draw and a pink sharpie to fill in the edges! Chipboard frame is by papermania & the sentiment stamp is from Die'sire's new sentimentals range.. here's the detail -<br />

Well, my efforts at clicking a photo everyday have flopped.. While i religiously clicked the photos in January, I just forgot about my little project by the first week of Feb.. I think the issue was that i wasn't getting time to upload the pics online and so the excitement just fizzled out!!<br />
<br />
:D Some other year maybe then!! :) In the mean time, I am BACK to crafting!!! yay!! I got a new craft room in my newly rented house (well, it has been nearly 6 months now, though i got time to sort out the room only last month).. I made a calendar in January, some anniversary cards last week and i am trying a new technique using Glitter with stamped images using the glue-pad... I thoroughly was inspired by<a href="http://lulupu.blogspot.co.uk/"> lulupu's current challenge</a>. So far, the results have been mixed, will share my card sometime over the weekend even though it might not qualify challenge dealines! :)</div>

My second work day of the year was pretty unimpressive with half the office empty and not much enthusiasm among coworkers.. So when this hailstorm struck, everyone was glued to the windows till it lasted.. It looked awesome.. And if you notice the windscreens of the cars, you can notice the bunch of hail-stones accumulated..</div>

I have been terribly busy lately!! Got a new job, moved to a new house in a small town, trying to get my daughter to settle into her new nursery, taking care of her while she was getting sick again and again, a small (3 weeks!) vacation to India to meet friends and family and some other stuff!!<br />
<br />
I have not been crafting lately amidst all that hoopla, so had no motivation to turn come to my blog and say something! But this year I have made a resolution, inspired by a friend on fb, to make a post for everyday in this year. :)<br />
<br />
My posts will not be everyday, but there will be a post (with a picture) for everyday.. Atleast thats what I am going to aim for! Good Luck to me! :)<br />

This was my daughter's 3rd abroad vacation and her 7th flight. She would run across aisles and meet other kids and would be really naughty. She would touch all baby's head as taught by us to touch Syon, her cousin. To keep her busy, we found some stickers along with headphones - 'wake me up for food' and stuff like that. She was super fun to watch! I feel blessed to have her in my life.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;">And we travelled on 1st day of 2014, may we keep travelling throughout the world!</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My darling husband decided to wear shirts with cuff-links a few months back. While they do look smart, keeping the little pieces away from my little daughter and away from getting lost was getting difficult! So, What do i do? Well, I decide buy a box! And with crafty wife around, how can the box not get decorated! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This how i decorated the box - </div>

<br />
<br />
Used a lot of washi tapes and really had to stop myself from overdoing since, my husband would not have used it! :D He is wary of using anything thats OTT.<br />

<br />
I bought this SHERIF badge a few days back from a local party store and was dying to use it somewhere! And when i was going through my knick-knacks to upcycle something (for LESSology challenge), i found this rather cute handcuff pendant. I gifted this to my husband in those early days of our relationship, when we were *young*, err.. ok, *younger*!! We could wear almost anything and get away with it! LoL!<br />

A Little bit of sunshine is all i need right now. Its soooooooooooooo cold, and rainy and cloudy out here in London that i really want to go back to my home for some sunshine. My daughter was getting cold every now and then already, now i am down with cough and cold as well. My throat feels like some one has put rough and dry sand over it! Anyways, here's the card i made last week. I love the toned down effect of the rays through the light fabric-paper sheet.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFM9Znv1tTc/UVh2tX9397I/AAAAAAAABHQ/iAgtLIb0mBI/s1600/DSC_2767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFM9Znv1tTc/UVh2tX9397I/AAAAAAAABHQ/iAgtLIb0mBI/s400/DSC_2767.JPG" width="550" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The sentiment is changeable, which i will probably do when i give this card out to someone. I did the flowers in a 3D pop-up style, which gives it such a gorgeous look! The lace was lying in my stash since a long long time. I realize i do not buy or use ribbons often now, where as i was a ribbon fan a while ago! Crafting styles change over time, don't they?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KbvGNEGn2uw/UVh2spDL38I/AAAAAAAABHI/plygGfBpHeg/s1600/DSC_2772.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KbvGNEGn2uw/UVh2spDL38I/AAAAAAAABHI/plygGfBpHeg/s320/DSC_2772.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope some sunshine passes over from the card to our lives! How is the weather at your place? </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;">My daughter, me, my mom and her mom we all got together in december last year, when we went for a cousin's wedding and this is the only moment when my daughter and my grandmother had or will have together. My grandmum passed away last month and all the more reason to treasure their pic forever. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span>
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;">My jhaiji, thats what we all called my grandmother, was absolutely wonderful in her own way! As with all the ladies of her era, she was fond of making delicacies in our kitchen. Mathhis, gujhiyas, namak paras, pickles, almond syrup were some of her favourite things to make! I remember trying to sneak past her when she was in the kitchen, because she would always give us something to help her with. And once caught, we just had to work in with her for a minimum of couple of hours. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;">I remember an incident when i saw her reading a Hindi magazine and was so totally surprised. I always assumed she was illiterate! Why I made that assumption, I do not know. But i was so proud of her when i got to know! :) </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;">Anyways, So this is a small canvas i made with the pic - </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;">I chose pink color as the background because it somehow gives a very feminine feel and there are only ladies in this pic anyway. I started making this mixed media canvas inspired by <a href="http://yyam.blogspot.com/">Yvonne</a>. She makes hers so well! </span></span></div>

<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;">I am always inspired by LESSOLOGY challenges, so went through the house toolbox in line with the current challenge at LESSOLOGY - <a href="http://lessology.blogspot.sg/2013/03/lessology-challenge-23-whats-in-your.html">Whats in your toolbox</a>? I say 'house toolbox' since we dont really have one at our home, there's a small box which landowner left (for us!) in the spare room. It has a random collection of things, spare lights, hammer, multi-screw driver, sample paints, paint brushes $and some other knick knacks. I stole that '4' and those circles from the box. I dont know what those circles are, and numbers were probably to mark flat numbers on the mail box. Ours is flat 9, so i could see all others except 9! :)</span></span><br />

Ok, so this was real time consuming! Somehow my old blog template mysteriously vanished and i was forced to set up a new template... And i am glad i did that.. This template reflects me so well, bright, bold and obviously beautiful! :)<br />
<br />
I took background, header image, post dividers all separately and tweaked the html to get what i wanted! It took me my whole day today! Phew! My husband is really annoyed now though, i spent a sunday on a blog rather than talking with him.. Time to make it up to him now.. Well, after this post I Will !!!<br />
<br />
I recently made some fridge magnets for friends, I made a lot more though i clicked only a few since the rest of them were all in their pillow-case-boxes and i was too lazy to open the ribbons.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uiW3PZndg-w/UU9SSSlb1NI/AAAAAAAABGY/V2jJLC-qW_g/s1600/magnets-tile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="381" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uiW3PZndg-w/UU9SSSlb1NI/AAAAAAAABGY/V2jJLC-qW_g/s400/magnets-tile.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am also in middle of making a mixed media canvas, but my daughter's sickness is not letting me craft to my heart's content. Weather here is so bad, it snowed yesterday, when its time for spring! I just don't like extreme cold weather now. My daughter catches cold quickly and then i cant even go out to get groceries.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also have to ask my mother in law about all the Amaira's birthday cards that have made it to her. So please bear with me to take a out a name as the winner! I think I'll let my daughter select the winner by putting all the sender's names on chits and putting in a bowl for her. :) Should be fun! </div>

I cant help but crib about how some bad luck is not leaving my side!<br />
Looking for a job since 2 months now, got selected in a small company but they dont *yet* have finance backup. Some investment is on its way and they are interviewing people in anticipation!<br />
Some how my blog template has vanished! Somewhere! Need to get a new template now!<br />
Amaira is going through a bad phase healthwise as well.. Running now since a couple of weeks, vomiting, diarrhea and yesterday she had 104 fever.. :( and doctors cant tell what infection she has so she is only getting paracetamol, and telling me,she's doing fine and will get better on her own! Though i know these illness episodes build up their immunity for life, its just difficult to see them so uncomfortable and cranky and clinging to us all the time..<br />
<br />
Anyways, i did win <a href="http://lessology.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/lessology-challenge-22-how-charming.html">lessology</a> challenge #22 and i received the $20 gift certificate today! So not all is bad!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
We are planning a small get together at home with friends for Amaira's birthday on the weekend.. And i am making come cute little fridge magnets for every family.. Kids will obviously have their ow. Party favors, but isnt it cute to have something for grown ups as well! </div>
Kishley (Dolly Sapra)http://www.blogger.com/profile/02012467382729786923noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7020455370946792016.post-27313528431176141552013-03-10T12:22:00.002+00:002013-03-10T12:22:39.729+00:00Amaira is one!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Already! It seems only a few weeks since she was born! Time flies away so quickly sometimes. :) we celebrated her birthday in a different style, instead of throwing a party, we took her to a children centric resort. She enjoyed a LOT!! There were baby swimming pools, play areas, creches, cycle with baby trailers, kids disco, parties for children.. I was so so so surprised to see SO many babies and toddlers in there. And the resort in itself is HUGE.. Surrounded in trees and multiple lakes with self catering lodges and hotel both.. We are surely going to go back again. Amaira enjoyed watching numerous ducks, rabbit, birds and squirrels as well.. :)<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I made this special card for her, inspired from Ujjwal's napkin fold card on Lulupu.. I absolutely loved the fold when i saw it n decided to make this special one for Amy's birthday.. I just did a little change, instead of making a band to hold this together, i have a flap system which is glued on the back. The flaps close together using loops through popped up brads. Can you spot them? ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span id="goog_264516463"></span>This card opens up n show this really lovely pic.We got a photoshoot done recently in 1930s style.. I absolutely adore this pic of hers..<br />

Just thought i should give it a go after reading it <a href="http://smilethesmile.blogspot.com/2013/02/six-things-that-made-me-happy-today-4.html">here</a>. So here goes the list-<br />
<br />
1. Took an afternoon nap for a couple of hours.Felt so so so relaxed!! Usually i am completing house chores when my daughter sleeps and so dont get time to sleep in the day myself.. And on weekends, we are usually out somewhere..<br />
<br />
2. There were lovely snow flurries *out* of my window.. LOVE to see them from the warmth of my house.<br />
<br />
3. Did speed shopping and actually managed to buy things i needed and wanted for me and my daughter. Thanks to my afternoon nap, had only an hour before the shops close!<br />
<br />
4. My weekly domestic lady gave me call late evening that she is stuck somewhere and if i wouldn't mind if she comes tomorrow morning. I usually do mind when people change plans at the last minute *on weekends*, but i actually enjoyed her off by using up ALL the hot water and taking a deep long dip! Whats the big deal, well, she wants hot water or wont work, we have timed water heater which works only at nights and my darling daughter doesnot let me take a dip whenever i want. You get the picture :)<br />
<br />
5. I baked a cake after a long time. Tried the lemon flavour after eating one in starbucks recently. My cake was only half as good, but the smell of home baked cake is pure bliss.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When you are sitting idle on a couch, relaxing, so many thoughts travel through the mind. Sometimes in those lovely moments, you realize how much you have grown and matured. You realize the importance of companionship, of love, of fights, of places traveled, of those laughs you had and all the blessings you have. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Birthdays are the days i usually introspect these thoughts and thank god for everything i have in my life and how lucky i have been. This year i thought this through on my anniversary as well. I have been married for 5 years now and it seems only yesterday when we started to breathe as a couple. 5 years is not a very long time, but then its significantly long enough time to say, ' have we really spent such a long time together?' :) :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a really special gift for my husband on our 5th anniversary yesterday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is how the box looks from outside - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The box opens up from front and shows 5 cute little bottles. I bought a box of glass-beads packaged in them, those beads were used way back but these empty bottles remained which are now put to good use!<br />
<br />
Some views from inside -<br />

Job market here in UK is not too good and i know from friends that it took them about 3-4 months on an average to find a job! I have been trying for 6-7 weeks now, and only given single interview, which in turn might take another month to reply!!</span></div>

Its such a beautiful day here today, a little sunshine in otherwise gloomy and cloudy days is so nice to have! I made this cute little card for my husband for the love-day -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_GCnef7ULoU/URzv__r_UQI/AAAAAAAABCU/yoZ4YQc6V30/s1600/P1180136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_GCnef7ULoU/URzv__r_UQI/AAAAAAAABCU/yoZ4YQc6V30/s640/P1180136.JPG" width="458" /></a></div>
<div>
Learned this tissue paper scrunching from <a href="http://yyam.blogspot.com/">yvonne</a>, and i absolutely love the effect. I have coloured the background with metallic acrylic colours. I have taken this image from an old book and hand coloured them with watercolor pencils. I know i suck at colouring! but then i had to try! :) There's little glitter glue on flowers as well. I chose this pic since it makes me remember a really old song called eleven roses. It goes something like i am giving you 11 roses, look in the mirror an you'll see the 12th one! :) dont know who sung it though..<br />
Entering this card for the following challenges -<br />
